OUR TEAM

Meet Russ and Ann Tarleton: As the new owners of Vista Clara Coffee, our current focus is optimizing the coffee roastery business built by Dave and Joan Stewart over the years. Our combined experience as well as management of our own successful coffee stand and coffee shops has prepared us to take Vista Clara Coffee to a new level. 

Because the VISTA CLARA COFFEE® trademark is well known, we have retained that brand as a dba of our corporation, AmarKoS, Inc. Finding an available name for the corporation was challenging, so we opted to make up our own name! “AmarKoS” is the combination of the names of our three Golden Retrievers – Amara, Koa, and Scout. While our two male Goldens have crossed the rainbow bridge, Amara remains with us as our unofficial office mascot.

We are grateful for the opportunity to continue the legacy Dave created. You will see changes at the roastery as we build out a coffee shop and training center set to open in 2025. There you can sample some of the 21+ roasts we offer, including the recently added Swiss Water Process decaf and our new white coffee, VISTA WHITETM roasted from the popular Signature blend.

    Russ recently retired from 37 years as a patent, trademark, and copyright attorney, giving him more time to focus on the roastery.

Our Legacy

Vista Clara Coffee's roots reach back to 1970 when Dave Stewart partnered with his brother Jim to open the Wet Whisker ice cream and coffee shop in Coupeville on Whidbey Island.

They subsequently opened a shop on Seattle’s Pier 70, and the business evolved over the years into Stewart Brother's Coffee.

They later changed the name to the well-known Seattle's Best Coffee, and the brand was eventually sold to Starbucks (and then to Nestle’s).

Wanting to stay in the coffee business, Dave started Vista Clara Coffee – a wholesale and retail coffee roasting business – in 1997, which he grew into a highly successful roastery.

Following the sale of the roastery to the current owners, Dave continues on as a consultant to Vista Clara Coffee.
